Trauma therapy in Michigan, from home
What happened to you is part of your story, not all of it. Therapy can be a place to make sense of it without being rushed.
Reviewed by Hanna Newton, LMSW. By video for clients in Michigan.
Trauma doesn't always look like what people expect. It can show up as feeling on edge, shutting down, trouble trusting people, or reactions that seem bigger than the moment.
We start from your strengths, not from what's wrong. You decide what you share and when. Sessions are by video, so you can do this work from a place that already feels familiar, anywhere in Michigan.
How we approach it
Our care is trauma-informed: we pay attention to safety, choice and pace in every session. We use cognitive behavioral therapy and practical coping skills to help you feel steadier day to day.
Hanna, our founder, also blends internal systems therapy with practical coping skills, looking gently at what's happening beneath the surface. Healing isn't about fixing something that's broken. It's about understanding yourself and growing from there.
When you look for trauma therapy in Michigan, you'll see two phrases that sound alike: trauma-informed and trauma-focused. Trauma-informed is about how care is given, with safety, choice and pace at the center. Trauma-focused usually means a structured protocol built around the memory of what happened, or what it has come to mean.
Advanced Behavioral Health offers trauma-informed, CBT-based talk therapy by video, anywhere in Michigan. What that approach includes: attention to safety, choice and pace, practical coping skills, and work on the thoughts and patterns that keep you on guard. What it does not include: being asked to go through what happened in detail before you're ready.
A specialized trauma-focused protocol can be the better fit if you already know you want one, or if a doctor or a past therapist has recommended one for PTSD. In that case, it makes sense to find a clinician trained in that protocol. If you're not sure what you need, that's fine too.
What to expect
Email us with a little about who therapy is for and how to reach you. You don't need to describe what happened in that email. We'll match you with a clinician who fits, often within the week.
Sessions are by video. Your first sessions are about getting to know you and what you want from therapy, not about retelling everything at once.
If it's your child or teen who has been through something hard, you can be the one who reaches out. Our team works with children and teens, and we also offer family therapy, so the people at home can be part of the work when that fits.
